The Mousetrap London - The longest running show, of any kind, in the world
Agatha Christies Mousetrap is a murder mystery which is West Ends most mesmerizing
and promising play that has been playing success for over 50 years!
Dame Agatha Christie is a name which needs no formal introduction. As a prime British
novelist and the worlds best crime writer Agatha Christie wrote the dramatic plot
of a murder mystery- The Mousetrap, which was adopted into a stage play and was
first premiered at the Theatre Royal, Nottingham on 6 October 1952. The show was
then transferred to Londons Ambassadors Theatre and it was not before 22 long and
strong years with over 24,000 solid performances that it moved next door, to St
Martin's Theatre in 1974, where it still plays - striking and strong as ever without
any sign of tiredness or retirement.
Mystery, murder, drama, suspense and horror- Mousetrap as a mix of all these spices
makes for the perfect recipe of success that has been preserved by the performers
and the audiences alike. The shows twisting plot and dramatic ending is West Ends
best kept secret and this adds to the mysteriousness of the show.
Directed by David Turner, the curtains of Mousetrap play opens up to reveal a mysterious
murder of a woman in the dark and then things swiftly roll on to reveal the suspicious
story a newly married young couple. Set in the backdrop of Monkswell Manor, this
newlywed couple starts off with a guesthouse service in the ramshackle old Manor
inherited by the wife which on the face value is a guest house but in reality is
nothing more than a mousetrap of victims set by a monstrous murderer. The shows
power radiating force is its dramatic plot in the backdrop of which, the strong
dialogues supplement the play beautifully.
With unparalleled fame and unprecedented success, Mousetrap is a timeless play that,
as a remarkable theatrical phenomenon, is here to stay- strong and irresistible
as always!
